Milbank LLP partner Lawrence (Larry) Wee, a member of the firm’s Alternative Investments practice in New York, participated in a panel discussion featuring members of Restructuring Asians in New York, or RAINY, in celebration of Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month. RAINY is a networking group for leveraged finance, distressed debt and restructuring professionals.

In “RAINY Leaders Talk AAPI Community Building with Harvard Zhang,” an episode in the Reorg podcast series, the participants discuss why they created RAINY, how they got to where they are professionally, and what can be done to advance the careers of minorities. The conversation was led by Reorg’s Harvard Zhang and included, in addition to Mr. Wee, Jingzhi Dai, managing director at Jefferies; Alex Xiao, associate at Gibson Dunn; and David Samikkannu, director at AlixPartners.

“Building relationships is a skill set you need to focus on in order to become a senior level person in any organization,” said Mr. Wee. “Relationships are based on trust. Fundamentally, if a person trusts you, that goes a long way. Your personal brand is going to be based on your integrity.”

Mr. Wee’s practice focuses on a variety of restructuring, liability management, capital markets and finance transactions and securities regulation. He represents creditors, borrowers, issuers, distressed investors, direct lenders and sponsors in a wide range of direct lending transactions, rescue financings, convertible, preferred and hybrid issuances, DIP financings, exit financings, restructurings, liability management transactions and other financing transactions and issuances of equity-linked instruments.

Reorg is a global provider of credit intelligence, data and analytics for leveraged finance and restructuring professionals.
