Gurbir S. Grewal, Litigation & Arbitration partner at Milbank LLP and former Director of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, will speak at the Practising Law Institute’s (PLI) panel on Attorney-Client Privilege and Internal Investigations in New York on August 7, 2025.
The panel will address recent developments and practical guidance on the application of attorney-client privilege under the ABA Rules of Professional Conduct in corporate internal and government investigations. The session will cover strategic and ethical issues in internal investigations, the implications of the advice-of-counsel defense and managing conflicts of interest when representing or interviewing company employees.
Mr. Grewal brings a unique blend of government experience, including his roles as a former federal prosecutor, New Jersey Attorney General, and SEC Enforcement Director, to his representation of clients across a range of regulatory enforcement and white-collar criminal matters. During his three-year tenure as SEC Enforcement Director, Mr. Grewal oversaw all investigations, enforcement actions and litigation conducted by the SEC and supervised a staff of more than 1,300 attorneys and accountants nationwide.
