Partner William Bice named Project Finance Attorney of the Year; firm also advised on Renewables Project Finance Deal of the Year
Further cementing its stature as one of the world’s leading project finance advisors, Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP received three best-in-class awards at Power Finance & Risk’s 13th annual awards ceremony, held this month in New York City.
Milbank received the magazine’s signature award as “Project Finance Law Firm of the Year.” Additionally, Project Finance partner William Bice was honored as “Project Finance Attorney of the Year.” The firm’s representation of Mexico Power Group in the development and financing of a wind farm in central Mexico was also lauded, with the deal being named “Renewable Generation Project Finance Deal of the Year.”
Global acclaim for Milbank’s Global Project Finance Group has also come from Project Finance International, which recently recognized the firm with six awards for deals on four continents. In March, the firm received eight separate awards from IJGlobal for its work advising on large energy, transportation and other project finance transactions across Asia, Europe and the Americas.
Eric Silverman, co-chair of Milbank’s Global Project Finance Group, said: “We’re honored by Power Finance & Risk’s recognition of Milbank and one of our partners, Bill Bice. We’re also thrilled to be singled out for advising on the year’s best renewable energy financing. This trifecta is a good reflection of the innovation and strength of our energy and projects practice.”
In obtaining Renewable Deal of the Year, Milbank advised Mexico Power Group in a two-part transaction to develop a 130-megawatt wind farm to provide power to the Volkswagen de México plant in Puebla. The wind project will help the factory, the largest automotive manufacturing site in Mexico, reach renewable energy-use goals. Project Finance partner Allan Marks, who leads many of the firm’s major wind and renewable transactions, led the deal team.
Mr. Bice, a member of the Global Project Finance Group for more than 20 years, has an active practice advising developers, lenders, asset owners, hedge funds, and private equity funds involved in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
One of the first international law firms to establish a Project Finance Practice Group, Milbank has developed some of the most critical and pioneering infrastructure projects across the globe. Over the past three years the firm has closed more than 140 transactions worldwide worth more than $125 billion.
