Mr. Edelman assumes chairmanship following 10 years on Executive Committee; sees continued growth in key transactional and litigation practices

The Firm is pleased to announce that litigation partner Scott A. Edelman has been elected Milbank’s new Global Chairman. Scott succeeds Mel Immergut, who is retiring after serving as Chairman for 17 years.

Scott is a graduate of Yale College and Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Harvard Law Review. He joined Milbank in 1994 after serving for four years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Scott has been a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee since 2003. He was elected Vice Chairman in 2009.

“I am incredibly fortunate to assume the Chairman’s role at a time when we have so many successful practices in so many different regions,” Scott said. “Milbank is a truly global firm with preeminent practices around the world, including litigation, financial restructuring, project finance, acquisition finance, securities, corporate, transportation finance and technology transactions.”

Scott noted that “Milbank has made tremendous strides under Mel Immergut’s leadership, and is now viewed as one of the most prominent law firms globally. We are committed to continuing to move the firm forward to take advantage of opportunities we see in the market place, a credit to the strength and talents of our lawyers around the world. I would expect to see continued growth in our transactional and litigation practices.”

Scott will continue to maintain an active litigation and arbitration practice while attending to his duties as Chairman. His work combines civil, white collar criminal and regulatory litigation, and also includes advice to senior management and boards of directors on corporate governance and transactional matters.
