Milbank Attorneys Win Lawyers Alliance for New York’s Cornerstone Award for Pro Bono Work

Share

Milbank partner Matthew H. Ahrens and special counsel Richard Hillman received the Cornerstone Award from the Lawyers Alliance for New York for their work helping Fifth Avenue Committee, a South Brooklyn-based community organization, develop and implement solar electricity initiatives in multi-family affordable housing buildings. Cornerstone Awards recognize individual attorneys and law firms for their provision of pro bono services to organizations that improve the lives of low-income New Yorkers.

Along with other Milbank attorneys, Mr. Ahrens and Mr. Hillman have provided legal support for Fifth Avenue Committee’s solar initiatives since 2017, advising on the project’s structuring and regulatory aspects and helping the organization navigate and standardize the project’s design and construction contracts. Fifth Avenue Committee’s solar initiatives, designed to provide electricity cost savings to tenants living in multi-family residences, contribute to the city’s sustainability efforts and offer a replicable project paradigm that can be used by other community development organizations. As a result of Milbank’s legal support, the organization continues to improve the accessibility of solar power for tenants in affordable housing.
