Milbank LLP advised Es’hailSat, the Qatar Satellite Company (“Es’hailSat”), on the procurement of the Eshail-3/Türksat-Biruni geostationary communications satellite system, including the negotiation of a contract with Thales Alenia Space for the design and manufacturing of the satellite and a strategic partnership agreement with Türksat, the national satellite operator of the Republic of Türkiye.
Eshail-3/Türksat-Biruni, based on the Space INSPIRE (INstant SPace In-orbit REconfiguration) platform by Thales Alenia Space, is a next-generation high-throughput Ka-band satellite. As a software-defined satellite, Eshail-3/Türksat-Biruni will offer high-speed broadband connectivity services across the Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, Central Asia and surrounding maritime regions, with the flexibility to offer enhanced communications services in response to evolving customer demand.
The Milbank deal team was led by Transportation and Space partners Dara Panahy and Bijan Ganji and included special counsel Mark Padley and associates Brian Murff and Melis Ulusel.
