Lefteris Dafermos, an associate in Milbank LLP’s European Leveraged Finance/Capital Markets Group in London, has been named to the United Nation’s 2022-2023 Civil Society Youth Representative Steering Committee. The seven-member committee, selected from among hundreds of applicants, will help guide the youth engagement program’s outreach and advocacy initiatives related to issues on the UN’s global agenda.
Mr. Dafermos qualified for the role based on his proven track record of public service leadership. He has volunteered for ten years with The Smile of Child, a non-profit child welfare organization based in Athens, Greece. The non-governmental organization (NGO) supports child victims of violence, missing children, children with health issues, as well as children and their families living in poverty or threatened by poverty.
Established in 2009, the UN Department of Global Communication’s (DGC) Civil Society Youth Representatives Program serves as an advocacy platform to bring together people ages 18 to 32 working within and/or leading organizations that are in association with the DGC and focused on issues supported by the United Nations.
