Milbank LLP Litigation & Arbitration partner Julian Stait chaired a panel discussion at the CompLaw: Financial Services conference, in London on 30 September.
Julian was joined on the panel, ‘Lessons Learnt from Recent Damages Claims’, by Brian Kennelly KC (Blackstone Chambers), Oliver Latham (vice president, Charles River Associates) and Gus Sellito (founder of Byfield Consultancy).
The session covered a variety of topics including a review of the landscape for competition law damages claims in the financial services sector; reputation management issues in the early stages of collective proceedings; a review of the Competition Appeal Tribunal’s ‘gate-keeping’ role in the light of recent certification decisions; the role of expert economic evidence at the certification stage; strategic considerations in defending certification applications; an update on the FX, interchange fee and car finance proceedings; an economist’s views on the pass-on issue; and reputation management issues in relation to the settlement of collective proceedings.
