NEW YORK, October 31, 2016 – Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP of counsel Jane L. Hanson was recognized for her “Exceptional Pro Bono Assistance to the Leadership of The Legal Aid Society” at Legal Aid’s annual Pro Bono Publico Awards in New York City on October 26, 2016.
In addition to Ms. Hanson’s honor, Milbank received an award for “Outstanding Law Firm Assistance to The Legal Aid Society and Its Clients.” In particular, Legal Aid acknowledged associates Stephen Iya, Alexis Kim, Andrew Lichtenberg, Kevin Maggio, and Gladisley Sanchez for their pro bono contributions, which include drafting criminal appeals, assisting with juvenile immigration cases, helping small businesses and nonprofits, and other matters.
Legal Aid honored Ms. Hanson for her “tireless and dedicated work” advising its leadership, including the President, Attorney-In-Chief, General Counsel, Chief Human Resources Officer, and the Attorneys-In-Charge of the Criminal Defense, Civil and Juvenile Rights practices. Legal Aid added: “Jane’s wisdom and judgment have been invaluable to the Society.”
The awards were presented by The Hon. Janet DiFiore, Chief Judge of the State of New York.
Known for its commitment to pro bono services, Milbank works on numerous matters with The Legal Aid Society, including a case that resulted in a landmark settlement benefiting thousands of New Yorkers with disabilities in 2015, as well as many other matters affecting low-income and underserved New York City residents.
