Fee led numerous money laundering, terrorism, fraud and espionage investigations and prosecutions in SDNY
NEW YORK, January 19, 2016 – Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP adds another prominent US Department of Justice veteran to its Litigation & Arbitration bench. Adam Fee, former Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, has joined the firm’s New York office as special counsel.
Advising corporations, financial institutions and individuals, Mr. Fee’s practice will focus on white collar investigations and defense, complex civil litigation and regulatory enforcement.
Prior to joining Milbank, Mr. Fee served more than five years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Criminal Division, where he was a member of the Terrorism and International Narcotics Unit. He played a lead role in many of the government’s highest-profile money laundering, financial corruption, international terrorism and espionage cases. Among Mr. Fee’s noteworthy matters, he led the investigation and prosecutions of the former president of Guatemala, Alfonso Portillo, for a multi-million dollar bribery and money laundering scheme, a large South American financial institution for corruption and money laundering offenses, and three Al Qaeda members responsible for bombing two US embassies in East Africa in 1998.
George Canellos, head of Milbank’s Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group, also a former SDNY prosecutor and former co-director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement, said: “Adam Fee is an exceptionally capable lawyer who knows how to manage complex investigative matters as well as case presentation in a courtroom. His knowledge and experience – including his work handling international financial cases – will be of great value to our practice and our clients.”
“In seeking a litigation platform that was global in scope and known for handling large, cutting-edge cases and investigative matters, Milbank immediately stood out,” Mr. Fee said. “Milbank presents a unique opportunity to join an established white collar practice where I will have the privilege of working alongside some of the finest litigators in the field, including my former colleague Antonia Apps.”
Mr. Fee completed two clerkships in New York’s federal courts. He clerked for Judge Richard J. Sullivan in the Southern District (2007-08) as well as Judge Joseph F. Bianco in the Eastern District (2006-07).
Mr. Fee earned his law degree from Harvard Law School and a B.A. from Yale University.
