Sonia Lopez is an associate in the New York office of Milbank LLP and a member of the firm’s Global Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance Group.

Primary Focus & Experience

Ms. Lopez's experience focuses on the development, financing, acquisition and disposition of power generation (conventional and renewable) projects as well as other energy and infrastructure projects, domestically and internationally. Some of her clients include sponsors, developers, lenders and private equity funds involved in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

Her recent representations include:

  • LS Power in its acquisition of a forty-three project hydro generation portfolio from Hull Street Energy.
  • LS Power in its acquisition of a 2.1 GW of CCGT projects from Brazos Electric Power Cooperative in ERCOT.
  • DSD Renewables, a BlackRock-owned solar C&I platform, in connection with a $250 million minority investment by Cox Enterprises, Inc.
  • Eastern Generation, an ArcLight Capital Partners affiliate, in its sale of the natural gas-fired Crete Energy Venture and Lincoln Generating Facilities in PJM to Earthrise Energy.
  • DSD Renewables, a BlackRock-owned solar C&I platform, in connection with a $200 million preferred equity investment by Ares Management Corporation.
  • LS Power in its acquisition of GI Endurant, a distributed energy developer and owner.
  • BlackRock in relation to its auction sale of the Big Sky wind farm in Illinois to Vitol.
  • LS Power in its acquisition of 1,124 MW natural gas-fired CCGT facility located in northern Pennsylvania, from a consortium of sellers including Siemens Financial Services and Panda Power Funds.
  • The initial lenders in the $94.8 million financing of the 10MWac Horizon solar power plant in Salinas, Puerto Rico and the 45 MWac Oriana solar power plant in Isabela, Puerto Rico, for Infinigen Renewables, a subsidiary of Arclight Energy Partners.
  • The sponsors in the $280 million financing of the San Pedro 101 MW solar project in Chile and the Cabo II 204 MW wind farm project in Chile.
  • The lenders in the $229.5 million refinancing of the operational 115.5MWac Cabo Leones I wind power plant in the Atacama region Chile.
  • The lenders in connection with the acquisition financing related to the purchase by Boldyn Networks of Apogee Telecom, a leading provider of on-campus connectivity infrastructure in the US higher education industry.
  • CEMPRO in connection with the acquisition financing related to the purchase by CEMPRO of assets in El Salvador and Costa Rica from CEMEX.

Recognition & Accomplishments

Ms. Lopez earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she served as Executive Editor of The Georgetown Journal of Gender and the Law. She also received her B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy from Wellesley College. Ms. Lopez is a native Spanish speaker.
