Rob is an associate in the Global Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance Group with experience advising lenders, sponsors and borrowers on a number of cross-border projects and transactions across the energy, infrastructure and mining sectors. Prior to joining Milbank, he was an associate in the London office of a large international “Magic Circle” firm having also spent time on secondment to that firm’s Hong Kong office.

Primary Focus & Experience

Representative transactional experience includes advising:

  • The IFC, UKEF and eight commercial banks led by HSBC, ING, Société Générale and Standard Chartered Bank in the US$1.5 billion financing by Vitol for development of Ghana’s OCTP oil and gas field. The project’s overall cost of approximately US$7 billion represents the largest foreign direct investment in Ghana’s history, and UKEF’s largest direct loan to date. The financing for this deal was awarded “2016 African Oil and Gas Deal of the Year” by Project Finance International and “Best Deal of 2016” by Global Trade Review.

  • The project company in relation to financing aspects for the Al Dur IWPP in Bahrain.

  • Nabors Industries Ltd., the largest onshore drill rig contractor in the US, on its onshore rig joint venture with Saudi Aramco to own, manage and operate onshore drilling units in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

  • A major Scandinavian distributor of electricity as borrower in the circa EUR 2bn bond and bank debt refinancing of acquisition debt.

  • A major European development bank in relation to as USD 75m borrowing base facility for an independent oil and gas exploration and production company.

  • The lenders in relation to a GBP 585m financing for the acquisition of a major international oil company’s North Sea pipelines and related on-shore facilities.

  • The purchasers on the GBP 160m acquisition and financing of the offshore transmission assets.

  • The concessionaire under a major European toll-road concession including in relation to dealings with the relevant government and the construction JV.

  • A major Chinese state owned enterprise in relation to matters arising out of its investment in an iron ore mine in Africa.

  • The purchaser in relation to its EUR 5.1bn acquisition of a major European oil and gas company.

  • A major UK utility in connection with the GBP 4bn procurement of a major infrastructure project.

  • A major European oil & gas company in relation to the unitisation of its interests in the Rovuma basin in Mozambique.

Robert has also undertaken a number of pro bono projects including assisting with advising on the establishment of a GBP 1bn issuance facility platform which enables charities to raise medium term debt through bonds issued on the London Stock Exchange, including advising in relation to the first such listing raising £11m for a UK based housing charity.
