Georgiana J. Slade is a partner in the New York office of Milbank and is Practice Group Leader of the firm’s Trusts and Estates Group.

Primary Focus & Experience

Ms. Slade focuses her practice on representing corporate executives, closely held business owners, hedge fund and private equity fund managers and other wealthy individuals (both domestic and foreign) and their families with estate, philanthropic and personal planning needs. She also represents individual and corporate fiduciaries in matters relating to the administration of estates and trusts, including contested matters.  She also represents numerous tax-exempt organizations with respect to formation, governance and administration issues, charitable gifting programs, and tax compliance.

Ms. Slade has been recognized by a number of publications as a top-tier lawyer for Trusts and Estates including in New York Business Journal’s 2018 List of 38  “Women of Influence”, Euromoney’s 2018 Best of the Best USA Expert Guide, Crain’s New York Business’s 2018 list of  “Leading Women Lawyers,” The Wall Street Journal, 2018 Best Lawyers In New York City,  The Best Lawyers in America, Bloomberg, Personal Finance, and BNA Tax Management.  Chambers USA ranks Ms. Slade in Band 1 for Wealth Management, where she is described by her peers as “very smart and thoughtful,” and clients appreciate her “extremely good judgment, efficiency and proactivity.” Ms. Slade was honored as the “Best in Wealth Management” by Euromoney Legal Media Group’s 2015 Americas Women in Business Law Awards and is a Corporate LiveWire Global Awards 2016 winner in the Wills, Trusts & Estates category.  She was shortlisted in 2016, 2017 and 2018 by Euromoney Legal Media Group’s Americas Women in Business Law Awards for “Best in Wealth Management.”  She has also been appointed as a David Rockefeller Fellow by the Partnership for New York City.

Ms. Slade is actively involved in many professional organizations, including the New York State Bar Association (where she serves as Chair of the Trusts and Estates Section’s Governmental Relations and Legislation Committee and served as Chair and/or Vice-Chair of the Trusts and Estates Section’s Life Insurance and Employee Benefits, Tax and Legislation Committees), the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel, the American Bar Association and the Duke University Estate Planning Council.

Ms. Slade has authored numerous publications on estate planning and estate administration, including the BNA Tax Management portfolios on Personal Life Insurance Trusts and Partial Interests-GRATs, GRUTs, QPRTs (Section 2702) and the Chapter on the Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax in the 2017 edition of Practical Guide to Estate Planning. She has lectured extensively on these topics to legal and professional associations, including the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel, University of Miami’s Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning, Internal Revenue Service, American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, New York State Bankers Association and the New York University Federal Institute of Taxation.
