Milbank LLP Litigation & Arbitration partner Viren Mascarenhas was interviewed by Super Lawyers on his career in international arbitration.
In the interview, Mr. Mascarenhas discusses the evolution of his career in international law and international arbitration, starting from a clerkship at the International Court of Justice, to serving as a Legal Officer at the Special Court for Sierra Leone, and then moving into private practice where he specializes in investment, commercial and construction arbitration. Mr. Mascarenhas has nearly two decades of experience acting as counsel in domestic and international arbitration proceedings, with extensive experience representing investors in high-profile energy and mining disputes against governments all over the world.
Mr. Mascarenhas also describes his journey at Milbank. He started as a summer associate at the firm in 2003 and 2004, rotating through various practices, in particular, project finance. Mr. Mascarenhas rejoined Milbank nearly 20 years later as a partner in the Litigation & Arbitration Practice, and now works very closely with the firm’s Project, Energy and Infrastructure Finance Group to build out the arbitration practice regarding projects facing disputes.
