Training

What It Means To Be a Milbank Associate

Learning About Our Practice

We take training very seriously.  Our summer associates participate in an intensive training program that follows a hypothetical company from inception to bankruptcy and then restructuring.  Summer associates are also invited to practice group trainings.  Weekly breakfast and lunch sessions offer summers the opportunity to learn more about Milbank and how to succeed as an associate.

LIFECYCLE OF A COMPANY: WINDSTAR

We supplement real-world experience with deals, cases, and our clients with training programs.  Summer associates acquire a better understanding of Milbank, our practice areas and the needs of our clients through an eight-session program that follows a hypothetical company, Windstar, from its inception through its early-stage equity and debt financings, initial public offering, an acquisition, difficulties with the SEC and ultimately its restructuring. A combination of in-session activities and post-class assignments have the summer associates working in collaborative teams drafting a commitment letter, a term sheet and an IPO prospectus, and preparing for a stock purchase agreement negotiation. In other sessions, summer associates act as the Board of Directors, listening to advice of counsel and then voting on which direction the company should go.
