Milbank’s award-winning Korean practice reflects the strengths of our general international practice. Over the past four decades, we have represented Korean and international corporations, financial institutions and governmental agencies in their dealings with international or Korean counterparts in cross-border, out-bound project finance, M&A and capital markets transactions, in-bound private equity transactions, as well as aviation and transportation finance matters.
Korean Focus
We have a particular focus on transactions involving large Korean corporations and governmental institutions, particularly the Korean export credit agencies such as the Export-Import Bank of Korea (K-Exim) and Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-sure) as a result of our preeminent Project Finance Group.
Our experience in handling Korean matters has given our attorneys stationed in Asia substantial knowledge of the law and practice of doing business in Korea and has resulted in close relations with the leading Korean companies, banks and financial institutions, governmental and quasi-governmental entities, business groups and law firms. In addition, a number of our lawyers, both in Asia and in the US, are fluent in Korean and in many cases have previously worked at various leading Korean law firms.
Global integrated approach
Our Korea-related work has been primarily coordinated out of our Hong Kong office since its opening in 1977, and is also supported by other global team members around our worldwide offices.
international recognition
We regularly win awards across our core practice areas from leading publications for our Korean work, including from International Financial Law Review, Asian-Counsel, Asian Legal Business, Project Finance and Project Finance International.
Our partners in Asia are widely recognized as among the world’s leading lawyers in capital markets, M&A, private equity, project finance, corporate restructuring, banking and finance, by legal publications, including: Chambers Asia-Pacific, Chambers Global, AsiaLaw Leading Lawyers, Euromoney’s “Best of the Best” Legal Expert Guide, IFLR’s Expert Guide, IFLR1000, Euromoney International Legal Guide, Asia Pacific Legal 500 and the Who’s Who of International Lawyers.
