Associates in our Washington office say they most appreciate the opportunity to work on the most sophisticated projects for our clients, many with an international component, while living in Washington and enjoying the benefits of a smaller, more collegial office environment. Our associates routinely work on matters involving:

  • Complex "Wall Street" transactions
  • Nationally prominent litigation matters
  • Development and financing of telecom, energy and transportation projects around the globe
  • Regulatory interaction with government agencies and multilateral institutions that are involved in our clients' matters

The firm's strong international practice means that, on a typical day, corporate and finance attorneys in our Washington office might find themselves helping an Asian-based "direct-to-home" satellite TV system by coordinating with counsel throughout Asia, working on a Fortune 100 company's ground-breaking outsourcing of its worldwide human resources function, assisting the Export-Import Bank of the United States in the financing of a pipeline in Latin America, or collaborating with our London office on a multi-billion dollar private equity bid for port infrastructure.

The associates in our litigation area might be working on a precedent-setting lawsuit by a savings bank against the federal government seeking compensation for losses suffered because of improper government action, helping to defend a major pharmaceutical company against overseas manufacturers that infringe upon its patents, or handling a multi-billion dollar arbitration claim against a foreign government in the World Bank's International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes.

In recent months, our associates have traveled on client matters for discovery, hearings and trials throughout the US and Europe, as well as on financings and other transactions in Austria, Brazil, Ecuador, England, France, Germany, India, Japan and Singapore.

Since the office opened its doors in 1980, our partners have included federal cabinet-level secretaries and heads of the CIA and FBI, and others who have served in significant government posts; most of our partners are nationally prominent in their fields of practice. The collegial environment and emphasis on teamwork enables our associates to work with and learn from our partners, who are eager to share their experience and take seriously their role in training our junior lawyers.
