Our São Paulo office is the natural extension of our century-long commitment to Brazil and Latin America.

Our core strengths – Infrastructure, Oil & Gas, Power & Energy, Project Finance, Securities and Telecommunications – and our global presence perfectly meet the region’s needs for the coming years.

Opened in 2010, our São Paulo office already has by far the most experienced team of US lawyers active in Brazil. The local partners and associates have worked together for years and are universally recognized for their extensive experience and skills. These lawyers have combined to lead the Brazilian equity ranking tables for the last six years. The office’s lawyers are all US qualified and the vast majority are native Portuguese speakers, fluent also in English and several other languages.

Our São Paulo office represents the top companies and financial institutions in Brazil, including Itaú Unibanco and Itaú BBA, its investment banking arm; CSN; Grupo Pão de Açúcar; Santander (Brasil); Gol; Cyrela; Cemig; and many others. Recent transactions that demonstrate the ability of our São Paulo team to work on groundbreaking deals and serve our clients across a wide spectrum of legal services, include:

  • the US$3 billion sale by Bank of America of all its equity stake in Itaú Unibanco;
  • the more than US$5 billion concurrent registered and Rule 144A/Regulation S offerings of preferred and common shares of Gerdau;
  • the US$1 billion acquisition by State Grid International Development, one of the leading power sector companies in China, of seven power transmission lines in Brazil owned by four Spanish companies;
  • the US$200 million offering of Senior Perpetual Notes with Interest Deferral Option by Energisa;
  • multiple offerings of Notes by Telemar in the total amount of approximately US$2.8 billion;
  • the US$800 million financing of two drilling platforms built for Schahin and chartered to Petrobras.
  • the offerings of a total of US$2.7 billion of various series of Notes by Santander (Brasil) under its Medium Term Note Program; and
  • the US$612 million offering of Notes by BM&FBOVESPA.
