James is recognised as one of the UK’s leading asset finance lawyers with broad experience in a wide variety of industries, particularly those in the transportation sectors, coupled with proven leadership and practice development abilities.
James has acted for banks, lessors, investors, manufacturers and operators on transactions involving a variety of assets including corporate and commercial aircraft, ships, rolling-stock, oil rigs, power turbines and other moveable equipment. James has advised on domestic and multi-jurisdictional asset financing transactions with a variety of structures including secured debt transactions and sub-participations, operating and finance leasing, tax leasing, export-credit backed financing, securitisations and franchising for rolling-stock. James has also advised on a number of leasing company sales and acquisitions and asset portfolio sales and purchases, and on several high-profile joint venture and Islamic financing projects.
James will play an important role in Milbank's global Transportation and Space Group and will significantly enhance the firm’s practice in the EMEA region, where he will work closely with the Corporate, Banking and Project Finance Teams in Milbank’s London and German offices.
