NEW YORK, June 2007 – The Global Project Finance Group of the international law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP received Chambers & Partners’ USA “Award for Excellence 2007” for the Energy/Projects category, distinguishing Milbank as the nation’s leading Energy/Projects law firm.
The awards were announced at the Chambers USA dinner held June 14, 2007 in New York City, marking the publication of the fifth edition of CHAMBERS USA: AMERICA’S LEADING LAWYERS FOR BUSINESS. For the second year, Chambers honored the top law firms and lawyers in the United States in nineteen separate practice areas with the prestigious USA “Award for Excellence.” Only one law firm or attorney is recognized as the best in each practice specialty nationally for each of the nineteen categories. The Awards for Excellence are based on supplemental research obtained from the lawyers and their clients that took into account their work during the past year. The emphasis of the awards is on the current activity of these law firms and lawyers.

High profile deals included the $611 million financing for Transurban Group’s acquisition of a 99-year concession on the Pocahontas Parkway; the $1.5 billion refinancing for Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass LNG project, the largest LNG financing in the USA to date; and the $2.1 billion recapitalization of Boston Generating LLC. Milbank was also recognized for its leadership in the renewable energy sector. In 2006 Milbank was involved in more than $2 billion of projects in the renewables sector.
