LOS ANGELES, July 13, 2011 – Paul Aronzon, partner and Co-Practice Group Leader of the Financial Restructuring Group with the international law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, LLP, was elected to Southwestern Law School’s Board of Trustees at the Board’s Spring 2011 meeting. Mr. Aronzon is a 1979 alumnus of Southwestern Law School and will take an active role in the advancement of the law school as it celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.
“It is important to me to be involved in Southwestern’s continued progress and development,” commented Mr. Aronzon. “It’s an exciting year to be on the Board and I look forward to working with the other members to further promote diversity, public service, and innovative programs that the school is known for.”
For more than 30 years, Mr. Aronzon has specialized in restructurings and corporate reorganizations including extensive experience representing debtors and creditors in reorganization cases and out-of-court workouts, such as exchange and tender offers, rights offerings, prepackaged and prearranged reorganizations, as well as acquirors of financially distressed companies or their assets.
He has taken a leadership role in some of the largest restructurings and corporate reorganizations in recent years, including Lehman Brothers; Lyondell Chemical; The Palms; Station Casinos, Inc.; Pacific Gas & Electric Company; Southern California Edison; Northwest Airlines; Delta Airlines; U.S. Airways Group Inc.; AMERCO (U-Haul International Inc.); Brown Jordan International, Inc.; Protection ONE; Trump Casino Holdings, LLC; United Artists Theatre Circuit; Edwards Theatres Circuit; Regal Cinemas Inc.; MGM; and Nextel International, to name a few.
A Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, Mr. Aronzon has been recognized as one of the most influential business lawyers in California and the nation by Chambers and Partners, American Lawyer, Daily Journal, Super Lawyers, California Lawyer, and Lawdragon’s Leading Lawyers in America, among numerous other entities. He frequently lectures and writes on bankruptcy and commercial law topics and is the co-author of several chapters of the Advanced Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Practice Manual as well as various articles for journals.
He is a 1976 cum laude graduate of California State University, Northridge. Mr. Aronzon is a member of the California, New York and District of Columbia Bar Associations.
