LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, October 22, 2012 – Neil J Wertlieb, partner in the Los Angeles office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP and member of the firm’s Corporate Group, has been appointed General Editor of the prestigious legal treatise Ballantine & Sterling: California Corporation Laws, succeeding R. Bradbury Clark of O’Melveny & Myers LLP, who passed away in 2011. First published in 1932, the treatise provides step-by-step practical guidance on the laws that govern the formation, operation and dissolution of business and non-profit entities in the state of California.
Mr. Wertlieb stated, “It is my honor to have a hand in continuing to provide attorneys in California with the valuable legal information for which Ballantine & Sterling: California Corporation Laws has been known for the past 80 years. Brad Clark was a highly esteemed member of our legal community and helped shepherd the treatise from a single volume to its current seven volumes. I look forward to continuing his great work and the work of his predecessors – Professors Henry W. Ballantine and Graham L. Sterling, Jr. (from whom the treatise derives its name) – and ensuring that Ballantine & Sterling: California Corporations Law continues to be current, relevant and an excellent resource for corporate lawyers today and in the future.”
Mr. Wertlieb’s practice focuses on corporate transactions, primarily acquisitions, securities offerings and restructurings. He was recently appointed Chair of the California State Bar Ethics Committee and previously served as Chairman for both the California State Bar’s Business Law Section and its Corporations Committee. Mr. Wertlieb, who received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of California at Berkeley, is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at the UCLA School of Law. He has been named as one of the top 100 most influential lawyers in California by California Law Business, and recognized in The Legal 500 for his M&A work.
