Milbank Partner David Stoll to Participate on a NY City Bar Panel Discussion About the New Marriage Equality Law, Issues and Impacts

Events
October 2, 2011

On Tuesday, October 4th, from 6pm to 8pm, David Stoll, partner in Milbank's Trusts and Estates Group, will discuss how the passage of New York's marriage equality law impacts estate planning on a New York City Bar panel titled "What Passage of the Marriage Equality Law Will Mean for Same-Sex Couples in New York: A Multidisciplinary Forum."  In what can only be described as a sea change, New York's marriage equality law has extended the rights, privileges and obligations of marriage to same-sex couples who wish to marry in New York.  Panelists will discuss the practical implications of marriage for same-sex couples and will explore open issues under the new law, the anticipated impact of the law on both individual and institutional clients, and the lingering effects of the Defense of Marriage Act and state laws that ban recognition of same-sex marriage.  David will address estate planning (QTIPs and GRITs), prenuptial agreements and divorce, tax implications and creditor protection.
