International Project Finance Law and Practice

LONDON, April 7, 2011 – Twenty attorneys from a cross-section of Milbank practice groups have authored International Project Finance Law and Practice, a book that examines the application of English and New York law in cross-border project finance documentation and the impact of structuring projects in civil law jurisdictions. Published by Oxford University Press, it is the first book of its kind to provide a thorough coverage of project finance structures with a broad geographic relevance.

“The book will give project sponsors, lenders, advisers and practitioners a detailed perspective on the legal and practical issues affecting the structuring and documentation of project financings in the global markets,” John Dewar, partner in Milbank’s Global Project Finance Group and editor of the book, said. “It has significant relevance across all sectors which access project financing including transportation, telecommunications, power and energy, and mining.”

The book examines the key sources of funding prevalent in the global project finance markets, from export credits, multilateral and development bank finance through to project bonds and Islamic financing techniques. The book also addresses the issues that can arise in the context of project defaults and work-outs and how to manage projects in these circumstances, as well as addressing litigation and international arbitration in the project finance context. International Project Finance Law and Practice is relevant to the execution of financings in both developed economies and in the vibrant emerging markets of the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, the CIS and Latin America.

Other Milbank contributors to the book include: Phill Fletcher, Cathy Marsh, Andrew Pendleton, Daisy East, Mark Plenderleith, Jonathan Maizel, Oliver Irwin, William Fyfe, Patrick Holmes, Mohammad Hussain, Joanne Robertson, Nick Angel, Alistair Hill, Michael Nolan, Julian Stait, Erin Culbertson, Gabriel Mpubani and Alexander Borisoff.
