Experienced in a broad range of corporate finance and capital markets transactions internationally

Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy announced that Michael “Ben” Garcia has joined the firm’s Global Securities practice group as special counsel in the New York office.

Mr. Garcia brings a sophisticated breadth of corporate finance and capital markets experience to Milbank, whose network of attorneys in offices in the Americas, Europe and Asia, and wide-ranging transactional capabilities have earned it recognition as one of the world’s premier capital markets law firms.

Mr. Garcia regularly advises issuers and underwriters in cross-border securities offerings, with a deal book that spans from Latin America to Europe, Asia and North America. He has counseled leading financial institutions and investment banks, as well as private equity firms and corporate issuers. In addition to advising on debt and equity offerings, he has advised on M&A transactions, commercial financings, leveraged buyouts and IPOs.

Recognized as a capital markets “Rising Star” in the 2012 edition of the UK Legal 500, Mr. Garcia is fluent in Spanish and German.

Marcelo Mottesi, head of Milbank’s Global Securities Group, said, “As we continue to go flat out on major capital markets transactions and related financings in key markets, we are fortunate to add Ben Garcia to the group. Ben is an extremely versatile deal adviser with a strong skill set representing stakeholders across the spectrum of corporate finance. And he brings particular experience in Europe, where many of our financial institution clients are based. Our team will greatly benefit from his presence.”

Milbank’s Securities Group has drawn numerous honors from international publications, including as Equity Law Firm of the Year by International Financial Law Review; International Law Firm of the Year by London’s Legal Week; Best in the Field by Chambers Latin America; and Equity Deal of the Year by IFLR Americas.

“Milbank has long been a destination firm for top capital markets work and I’ve been well aware of its stature in Latin America and Asia in particular,” Mr. Garcia said. “It’s an honor to join Milbank’s securities group – I’m excited about the opportunity to further grow my practice here.”

After earning an A.B. from Harvard University in Government, Mr. Garcia received his J.D. in 2000 from Columbia University School of Law.

He comes to Milbank on the heels of new corporate finance partner Eric Reimer, who joined the Los Angeles office earlier this month from O’Melveny & Myers, where he had been chair of the Corporate Finance practice.
