Milbank sponsored a seminar titled "International Litigation and Arbitration: Maximizing Foreign Investment Opportunities and Minimizing Risk." The seminar, hosted by the Japan Institute for Overseas Investment (JOI), was held at Japan Bank for International Cooperation (9th Floor Auditorium) on May 25, 2011. Featured speakers included Milbank partners Mark Plenderleith (Project Finance-Tokyo), Tom Canning (Litigation-London), Michael Nolan (Litigation-Washington, DC). Mr. Plenderleith gave the opening remarks and spoke on Structuring Investments: Taking Advantage of Treaty Protections. Mr. Canning presented on Foreign Investment Disputes: Maximizing Chances of Successful Resolution, and Mr. Nolan spoke on International Treaty Protection and the State's Police Power.
