Peter Benudiz is consistently recognized as one of the leading hospitality lawyers in the United States. For three consecutive years, his hospitality practice has been nationally ranked in Band 1 for Leisure & Hospitality in the reference guide Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. He is experienced in all legal disciplines critical to hospitality and real estate projects, hospitality, and financings, including distressed debt and equity investments and restructurings, and private equity deals. He currently represents the Creditors’ Committee in the Lehman Brothers’ bankruptcy with respect to all hospitality and real estate-related matters. Mr. Benudiz has been the lead lawyer on many of the newsworthy hospitality deals over the years, including deals involving, M&A, management agreements, traditional construction and permanent loans, convertible and participating debt, mezzanine debt deals, securitizations and other hybrid real estate and corporate debt transactions. His clients include Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Citigroup Property Investors, Lowe Enterprises, Raffles Hotels & Resorts, Las Vegas Sands, Kimpton Hotels, Grand Heritage Hotels, Peninsula Hotels, Makar Properties, Cypress Equities, Alagem Capital, CapitalSource Finance and several sovereign fund entities. Mr. Benudiz has been featured either as a lecturer, moderator or panelist at over 75 hospitality domestic and international investment conferences during the course of his career. The topics have ranged from cross-border transactions, hotel financings, restructurings, management agreements to joint venture and corporate structurings. Mr. Benudiz graduated from the University of California at Berkeley (A.B., Political Science, 1984); and Harvard University Law School (J.D., 1987). While at Harvard he was also a teaching fellow at Harvard University Department of Government while attending Harvard Law School and has been a member of the UCLA Extension Program Faculty teaching Introductory Hotel Law. Mr. Benudiz is proficient in Spanish.
