Milbank Takes Home Two 'Awards for Excellence' at Annual Chambers and Partners Gala

Global Project Finance Team and Partner James N. Benedict Receive Accolades

NEW YORK, June 16, 2009 – International law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP won two awards at the "Chambers USA Awards for Excellence" gala ceremony in New York on June 11. One award went to Milbank's project finance lawyers for their achievements in "Energy Projects: Power including Renewables." Partner James N. Benedict won the individual's "Award for Excellence" in "Litigation: Securities."

The annual awards, presented by Chambers and Partners, "honor outstanding lawyers and law firms across the USA, reflecting both pre-eminence in key practice areas, and achievements over the last 12 months," according to the UK-based publisher of law firm directories. Chambers is widely viewed as the world's leading authority on lawyer and law firm rankings.

Mr. Benedict, who serves as chairman of the Firm's Litigation Department and head of its Securities Litigation Practice Group, was chosen for the "Securities: Litigation" award out of six nominated attorneys.

He "is regarded as a standout practitioner in the securities class action defense arena," Chambers said.

Mr. Benedict specializes in the defense of major securities actions on behalf of issuers, underwriters, investment advisers, and corporate officers and directors in state and federal courts throughout the nation. He has been lead counsel for clients in some of the largest securities class actions in the nation. These include In re Initial Public Offering Securities Litigation (S.D.N.Y.), In re Enron Corporation Securities, Derivatives and ERISA Litigation (S.D. Tex.), and In re Mutual Funds Investment Litigation (D. Md.). His current work spans issues relating to subprime mortgages, IPOs, auction-rate securities, CDOs, prospectus disclosures, and mutual fund management fees.

Milbank's project finance team was recognized by Chambers as the recipient of the "Energy Projects" award for the third time in the past four years.
