Milbank Partner Appointed to Disciplinary Committee of New York State Supreme Court, First Department
NEW YORK, NY, April 14, 2008 – Litigation partner David R. Gelfand has been appointed to the Disciplinary Committee of the New York State Supreme Court, First Department (covering Manhattan and Bronx counties). The Disciplinary Committee sits as a first level trial court to hear complaints brought against members of the Bar by the Office of Chief Counsel and, where appropriate, the Committee recommends disciplinary action to the Appellate Division. In other instances, the Committee acts a first tier appellate court to review disciplinary recommendations of the Office of Chief Counsel, or, in some cases, a specially appointed referee. This appointment is a significant honor for Mr. Gelfand and the Firm.
Mr. Gelfand is the Practice Group Leader of Milbank’s National Litigation Department. He joined the Firm as an associate in 1987 and became a partner in 1996.
Mr. Gelfand’s litigation practice is highly diversified, with a concentration in complex civil and corporate litigation. He regularly represents financial institutions and corporations in class actions, securities and bankruptcy litigation cases, and he has tried jury and non-jury trials in state and federal courts throughout the country. Mr. Gelfand also has extensive experience representing clients in fiduciary and estate litigation. He has authored articles and lectured on various aspects of litigation and trial practice.
Mr. Gelfand is admitted to practice before the Bars of the State of New York and the District of Columbia. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Fifth, Seventh and Eleventh Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Mr. Gelfand is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, where he served as a member of the Committee on Judicial Administration. He is a member of the American Bar Association and DC Bar Association.
