Milbank Litigation Partner Linda Dakin-Grimm Recognized as a "Woman to Watch" by Business Insurance Magazine

Selected as an Elite Reinsurance Attorney for Leadership and Achievements

LOS ANGELES, August 7, 2007Linda Dakin-Grimm, a litigation partner in the international law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP, has been named a “Woman to Watch” by Business Insurance magazine. The “Women to Watch” feature highlights a group of 50 women leaders in commercial insurance, reinsurance, risk management and employee benefits who are involved in outstanding work not only within but also outside their organizations. Ms. Dakin-Grimm was selected on the basis of leadership, achievements, and impact on the buyers of insurance or benefits. She was one of only a handful of insurance and reinsurance attorneys recognized.

Ms. Dakin-Grimm’s notable contributions for 2007 include:

  • Successfully representing AIG Member Companies against a California-based reinsurance company that refused to reimburse the companies for millions of dollars paid to policyholders to settle 14 complex toxic and environmental cases.

  • Successfully representing Associated Accident and Health Reinsurance Underwriters (“AAHRU”), a pool of reinsurers composed of more than 15 companies, in a dispute that involved substantial financial losses to AAHRU from broker Sedgwick (now part of Marsh McLennan, broker in the U.S.), Bradstock (a broker in the United Kingdom now in liquidation). AAHRU filed against the Brokers for breach of contract, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty and negligent misrepresentation.

  • Considerable involvement in improving the work environment for women in reinsurance and the legal profession. Recognizing that law firms often lose high quality women due to family obligations, she pioneered a reduced hours schedule for associates, which has allowed several women on her team to manage both motherhood and a demanding profession. In addition, Ms. Dakin-Grimm has organized informal roundtables to discuss the challenges of women in reinsurance and law.

Ms. Dakin-Grimm joined Milbank in 1999. She received her B.A., cum laude, from Yale University and her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1985.
