Summer Program

Milbank is looking for exceptional people for our summer program and incoming class of associates – people with diverse backgrounds who demonstrate a high level of intelligence, creativity, determination and enthusiasm.

At Milbank, we pride ourselves on the "real life" experience that our summer program offers. Summer associates spend a minimum of eight weeks rotating through two or three practice areas of their choice. This system gives summer associates a realistic sense of Milbank's people, practice and culture. Summer associate assignments are truly work-oriented. Our summer associates attend client meetings, negotiations, closings and depositions and are supervised by partners and associates in each rotation.

All summer associates are assigned an associate advisor who offers additional guidance and mentoring. Formal midsummer reviews ensure that summer associates are given constructive, candid feedback about their progress and performance. In the past five years, Milbank offered 99% of its summer associates permanent employment.

In addition to the professional aspects of the summer program, key social events help define the summer associate experience. All Milbank summer associates have an opportunity to explore the culture of the cities where they work, and get to know their colleagues outside of their professional responsibilities. In Los Angeles, summer associates live the Southern California lifestyle, enjoying beach parties, concerts in the Hollywood Bowl and hiking in the Santa Monica mountains. The Washington, D.C. office sports a championship softball team which regularly trounces larger offices, and summer associates sample the rich and various activities only the nation's capital can provide. In New York, summer associates attend functions as varied as parties at the Museum of Modern Art, the Soho Grand Hotel, Belmont Park and lunchtime cruises on the chairman's sport fishing boat.

The Firm's strong international presence carries over into our summer program – during the past three years, 20% of our summer associates rotated through our foreign offices.
