Linda Dakin-Grimm is a partner in the Los Angeles and New York offices of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP. She received a B.A. cum laude from Yale University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. Her practice includes a variety of complex business litigation matters, including reinsurance and insurance disputes, on behalf of major property/casualty and life insurers and reinsurers. Ms. Dakin-Grimm has handled numerous trials, appeals, mediations and arbitration proceedings across the U.S. In late 2007, Ms. Dakin-Grimm won a five week jury trial concerning the breach of a stock purchase agreement, that resulted in a $40 million verdict for Milbank's client, and an award of more than $3 million in attorneys fees. Ms. Dakin-Grimm recently prevailed in a two month trial in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware, on behalf of a consortium of banks who disputed the enterprise value of a Debtor. She represented eight U.S. insurers and their European parents in a well-publicized dispute with the California Department of Insurance, over the Department’s purported regulation of European life insurers. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of Ms. Dakin-Grimm’s clients. Ms. Dakin-Grimm repeatedly won victories for U.S. property/casualty insurers in disputes with Lloyd’s and other London reinsurers. She obtained full rescission of a reinsurance treaty on behalf of several major reinsurers in a fraud dispute with their cedents. Ms. Dakin-Grimm has represented parties in contentious disputes involving finite issues and reinsurance pools. Ms. Dakin-Grimm's publications include articles in the “National Law Journal,” “National Underwriter,” “Best’s Review,” “Business Insurance,” “Reinsurance,” “Mealeys Reinsurance,” the “Environmental Claims Journal,” “Verdicts & Settlements,” “California Litigation,” “California Management Review,” “Corporate Conduct Quarterly,” “California Law Business,” and a chapter on corporate criminal liability in the treatise Compliance Programs and the Corporate Sentencing Guidelines, published by West Group (New York). Ms. Dakin-Grimm is a frequent speaker at conferences and seminars. She has chaired numerous Mealeys conferences. She spoke at the ARIAS Annual Meetings in 2003, 2004 and 2006, and at numerous conferences sponsored by the ACI, the ABA, Cambridge Group, Mealeys, Euroforum and Hawksmere. Ms. Dakin-Grimm was ranked in the “Band 1” tier of Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers in the 2007 edition of Chambers USA.
