Winthrop Brown is a partner in the Firm's Washington, DC office and a member of Milbank's Global Leveraged Finance practice group. He concentrates on US regulatory issues affecting foreign and US commercial banks, bank holding companies, broker-dealers, investment advisers and their affiliates. Mr. Brown has over 25 years of experience in advising leading banking organizations on a wide range of matters involving complex structured finance transactions, novel financial products and services, bank acquisitions, bank and broker-dealer formations and changes in control, and ongoing compliance with US banking and securities laws and regulations. Mr. Brown frequently lectures and participates in panel discussions and seminars on these issues. He also has been active in, and served on the boards of, various local nonprofit organizations. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar. Before joining Milbank, Mr. Brown was partner and chair of the financial institutions practice group at Shaw Pittman, resident in its Washington, DC office. Mr. Brown received his Juris Doctorate from the George Washington University School of Law in 1974 where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. He also received a Masters of Science degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1971 and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University in 1970.
