Douglas Barnes is an associate in the New York office of the international law firm Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP and a member of the Strategic Sourcing & Technology Group. Mr. Barnes has represented clients such as AstraZeneca, Atari, Avon, CVS, Dow Jones, Fidelity, MTV and Reader's Digest in connection with information technology and business process outsourcing, transition services agreements, copyright and trademark licensing, privacy and information security law, pre-litigation disputes and corporate transactions. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Barnes had a fifteen-year career in the information technology field that progressed from developing banking and accounting software to co-founding security software company C2Net (now part of Red Hat). During this time he also worked as a systems programmer for IBM, was vice president of Consulting at Securify/Kroll-O'Gara and co-founded IO.com, one of the first commercial Internet Service Providers. Mr. Barnes serves on the Committee on Information Technology Law of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and is a director of the Boerum Hill Association. He received a B.A. in Humanities from the University of Texas, a B.S. in Computer Science from Colorado State University and a J.D. from the University of Texas. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife, their daughter and two Labrador Retrievers.
