Andrew Jones Milbank Associate '88-89 (Tax) |
Since Andrew left Milbank, he has been pursuing a career in art. In 2005, his paintings were featured in numerous group shows, including two separate shows at the Salmagundi Club in Greenwich Village. At the second show, his painting “Sunflowers” won the Elaine and James Hewitt Award for Painting. Other group show venues included the Agora Gallery in New York (curated by Ira Goldberg, Executive Director of the Art Students League of New York) and the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven (curated by Jacquelaine Days Serwer, Chief Curator of the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.). In September and October 2005, Elliot Smith Contemporary Art in New York held a one-man show of Andrew’s recent stoop paintings, featuring the stoop shadows series. In this series, the cast iron railings of Greenwich Village stoops are seen solely through the shadows they cast across the brownstone steps. This series merges abstraction with realism and has caught the attention of many collectors. As of today over half the paintings have been sold.
