Peter Newman is an associate in the London office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCLoy and a member of the firm’s Financial Restructuring Group.  Prior to moving to London, Peter practiced in the New York office since 2004. 

Primary Focus & Experience

Peter has experience representing debtors, official and ad hoc committees of creditors, large debt or equity holders and prospective investors in connection with court-supervised and out-of-court restructurings in the US, Europe and internationally. He has represented acquirors and sellers of assets of insolvent and financially distressed companies, negotiated financing arrangements, sale agreements, reorganization plans, schemes of arrangement and related documents.

His representations have ranged across a wide array of industries, including energy, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding and docks, financial services, satellite, airline, automotive, printing, broadcasting, cable, hospitality, manufacturing, and project finance.

Representative engagements include ad hoc noteholder group of Novasep Holdings S.A.S.; ad hoc noteholder group of Afrisam Investment Holdings (Proprietary) Limited; Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Eastman Kodak Company; Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Lehman Brothers Holdings, Inc.; the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Refco, Inc.; the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Enron Corp.; ProtoStar Ltd. (chapter 11 debtors) and Satélites Mexicanos, S.A. de C.V. (chapter 11 debtor); Intermet Corporation and its affiliates (chapter 11 debtors); Alper Holdings, USA, Inc. (chapter 11 debtor); and MacGregor Golf Company (in out-of-court restructuring). Peter has also represented parties in interest in the restructurings of DryDocks World (counsel to lender); Boston Generating, Inc. (counsel to secured lenders); Quebecor World (USA), Inc. and its affiliates (counsel to subcommittee of noteholders); Northwest Airlines, Inc. and its affiliates (counsel to ad hoc committee of secured noteholders); Equity Media Holdings Corporation and its affiliates (counsel to secured lenders); Communications Corporation of America, White Knight Holdings, Inc. and their respective affiliates (counsel to secured lenders); Heartland Communications (counsel to second lien lenders); Adelphia Communications Corporation (counsel to administrative agent of secured lending facility); Calpine Corporation and its affiliates (counsel to secured lenders); ASARCO LLC (counsel to corporate parent).
