Lisa Coward is a registered patent agent in the Washington, DC office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group.
Primary Focus & Experience
Ms. Coward's areas of expertise include domestic and foreign patent and trademark registration application preparation and prosecution; copyright applications; trademark clearance studies; reissue and reexamination proceedings, patent investigations, including preparing opinions on patent validity, freedom-to-operate, and non-infringement; merger and acquisition due diligence, and portfolio management.
Ms. Coward consults with Milbank attorneys and clients on eDiscovery strategy in litigation matters including document holds, electronic storage agreements and collection methods.
She supports Milbank litigation teams in all manners of complex Intellectual Property matters including copyright, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and unfair competition, both in federal district courts and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She has extensive experience supporting patent litigation teams in jury and bench trials in the federal district courts.
Her work has ranged from representing start-up biotech companies to major US and European chemical and pharmaceutical houses, covering important pioneering biotechnology breakthroughs, practical consumer medical devices, classic blockbuster drugs and chemical engineering technologies.
Ms. Coward began her technical career as a project manager at RF Micro Devices and subsequently entered the intellectual property area as a patent examiner in the cellular telephony arts at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Before joining Milbank, Ms. Coward was a patent agent at Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP.
