David Gelfand is a partner in the New York office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and a member of the firm’s Litigation & Arbitration Group. A partner since 1996, he served from 2001 through 2009 as the Practice Group Leader of the Litigation Department. He joined the firm in 1987.
Primary Focus & Experience
Mr. Gelfand’s practice is highly diversified, with a concentration in complex civil and corporate litigation. He regularly represents financial institutions and corporations in class actions, securities and bankruptcy litigation cases. He has tried jury and non-jury trials in state and federal courts throughout the country and has extensive experience representing clients in fiduciary and estate litigation.
Mr. Gelfand serves on the Disciplinary Committee of the New York State Supreme Court, First Department. He is a member of the Board of Directors of The Fund for Modern Courts, a nonprofit organization committed to improving the administration of justice in New York. Mr. Gelfand is also a member of the American Bar Association, the DC Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, where he served on the Committee on Judicial Administration. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of The Green Vale School.

He has been recognized as one of the leading lawyers in America for general commercial litigation by Chambers USA, Benchmark Litigation and New York Super Lawyers. Mr. Gelfand has authored articles and lectured on various aspects of litigation and trial practice as well as serving as an editor of the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law.
