Dan Bartfeld is a partner in the New York office of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and a member of the firm's Project Finance Group since 2001.

Primary Focus & Experience

Mr. Bartfeld's practice focuses primarily on the representation of financial institutions and developers in a wide range of oil/gas, petrochemical, renewable energy, mining, power and other infrastructure-related projects in Latin America and the US.  He has particular expertise in multi-sourced financings (including those through official credit agencies), as well as representation of Asian-based investors focusing on Latin America and the US.

His recent representations include:

  • Representing project sponsors and lenders in over a dozen drillship, semi-submersible and FPSO transactions (primarily in Brazil).
  • Representing a range of commercial bank lenders and export credit agencies in the financing of major power plants in Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Peru and the Caribbean.
  • Representing Asian-based investors in acquisitions and financings of large-scale mining, refinery and power-related assets throughout Latin America.
  • Representing lenders and export credit agencies in a range of major LNG projects in the United States and Mexico.
  • Representing project sponsors and lenders in infrastructure projects (including port projects) throughout Latin America.

Recognition & Accomplishments

Mr. Bartfeld is a featured speaker at numerous industry conferences, and has been recognized by a number of publications as one of the world's leading project finance lawyers (including Chambers Latin America (which ranks him in the 1st tier of project lawyers in the world), Chambers Global, Chambers USA, Legal 500, etc.).  Dan is on the editorial board of IFLR.
